International Student English Proficiency Exams

International students may need to surpass the Graduate School’s minimum English language proficiency exam scores for this program. If the graduate program has unique score requirements, they will be detailed below. Otherwise, please refer to the Graduate School’s minimum score guidelines.

Degree Description:

The Master degree of Applied Economics (MAE) provides strong foundations in economic theory, quantitative methods, and applications, to prepare graduates for professional careers in business and consulting. This degree is designed so that well-prepared students can complete it in only 1 year. Job opportunities after the MAE degree include economist, financial, and marketing directors. While salaries after completing a Bachelor’s degree in Economics are around $42,546 – $76,621, those after a Master degree in Economics average $107,000; as reported by PayScale.com.

Admission Requirements:

Candidates for admission must meet the following requirements:

GPA. A Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business, Finance, Engineering, or related fields, with a cumulative GPA of 3 or higher (out of 4).

Courses. Coursework in statistics, mathematics, including linear algebra and calculus, is expected. Upper-division coursework in Economics is beneficial.

GRE/GMAT exams. No GRE or GMAT exams are required to apply. However, applicants who took either of these exams are encouraged to include the GRE scores in their application.

International students must demonstrate proficiency in the English language, as indicated by an official TOEFL, IELTS, or MELAB scores submitted directly to WSU from the testing services. Please check English proficiency requirements for specific test score requirements and exceptions to this requirement. International students must also provide evidence of financial independence. 

Letters of recommendation. Applicants must provide the names and contact information of three (3) faculty members, employers, or individuals who can write a letter of recommendation on their behalf.
