International Graduate Student Admission Information
Obtaining a Visa
International students should apply for a visa in their home country unless circumstances or travel plans make this impossible. If a student applies in a third country, the application may take more time and be reviewed more critically than if it was applied for at home. International Student and Scholar Services maintains an authoritative website on the visa application process at https://ip.wsu.edu/future-students/admitted-students/visas/. This information should be read carefully.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has implemented a SEVIS 1-901 fee of $350 for F visas and $220 for J visas. Prospective students applying for an F-1/J-1 visa must pay the fee prior to their visa application and entry into the US. Please visit http://www.ice.gov/sevis/i901/index.htm to learn more about the fee.
Arrival on Campus
The earliest international students on F-1 or J-1 visas with a 1-20 for initial attendance or DS-2019 to begin a new program can enter the US. is 30 days prior to the start date on the 1-20 or DS-2019, respectively. Upon arrival in the US., students are required to complete the New Student / Scholar Log-In at https://mypassport.wsu.edu. Failure to complete these forms within the first two weeks of the start date on your l-20/DS-2019 will prevent registration in SEVIS and will result in students being out of status.
WSU requires some vaccinations and recommends several others for all WSU students receiving in-person instruction. Your specific program of study may have additional requirements. For example, veterinary programs may require the rabies vaccine and health sciences programs may require COVID or other vaccinations. Executive Policy 43 requires proof of the vaccinations as a condition of enrollment for students at WSU’s physical campuses.
Pullman students can go to Cougar Health Services and students on other campuses may use their insurance to find a nearby provider for vaccines. Research and Extension Center students may need to use county health departments or use their student insurance to find an immunization provider.
Please note: you must arrange to secure your housing PRIOR to your arrival on campus. International Programs has helpful information for new students on their website at https://ip.wsu.edu/future-students/housing/.
