ARVIN SAHAYM, PH.D.

ASSOCIATE VICE PROVOST FOR INTERDISCIPLINARY INITIATIVES; ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF THE INDIVIDUAL INTERDISCIPLINARY DOCTORAL PROGRAM

Arvin Sahaym is currently serving the Graduate School of Washington State University (WSU) as the Associate Vice Provost for Interdisciplinary Initiatives. His mission is to implement the vision of senior leaders and promote interdisciplinary research, scholarship, and innovation- oriented entrepreneurial initiatives for the benefit of all existence.

Arvin is also a Professor of Management & Entrepreneurship and Huber Dean’s Fellow in Entrepreneurship at the Carson College of Business. Arvin researches and teaches in the fields of Strategy, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation. His research examines real-world phenomena at the intersection of Strategic Entrepreneurship, Technology and Innovation Management, and Management & Organization and has been published in a number of leading journals in these areas. He has served on numerous dissertation committees both as chair and member and taught several graduate and undergraduate courses. Arvin is a member of the Journal of Business Venturing Editorial Board of Review and regularly reviews articles for other top journals in business. A leading scholar in the domain of “technology and strategic entrepreneurship,” he has played an integral role contributing to WSU’s high global ranking in entrepreneurship research productivity.


Arvin has enjoyed serving the WSU, the Carson College of Business, and the Department of Management, Information Systems, & Entrepreneurship in various capacities such as the Director of WSU Entrepreneurship Skills & Knowledge Accelerator (WESKA) since its founding, member of WSU Provost’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award committee, member of WSU Faculty Senate, Entrepreneurial Faculty Ambassador, member of the P&T committee, and Ph.D. program coordinator.

Arvin has earned numerous honors and awards including Distinguished Paper Award at the Academy of Management, FGF Germany Best Paper Award, Academy of Management Conferences’ Best Reviewer Award, Carson College’s Outstanding Faculty Research Award (2019, 2012), Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award (2013), Outstanding Pullman MBA Faculty Award (2016), and Dean’s Excellence Awards over the years.

Personal interests and activities

Arvin has proudly served Pullman High School’s Business Education Advisory Board for a number of semesters, shaping the business unit’s strategic direction and preparing students for DECA area, state, and international competitions with noteworthy achievements (DECA is a
business club with several thousand chapters globally). He has also served as the President of the Palouse Indian Family Association, and as the faculty advisor for the WSU Indian Student Association. Arvin loves hiking, follows sports like soccer, cricket, basketball, tennis, and
football, and enjoys action and adventure movies.


Arvin earned his Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Washington in Seattle focusing on the strategy of high technology firms and entrepreneurial ventures. He built on his multidisciplinary prior education in computer science and engineering, and management from Birla Institute of Technology, India.

Arvin and his wife Uttara have twin sons, Om and Jay.
