Degree Description:

WSU offers two masters degree programs in Language, Literacy and Technology. These degrees combines two areas of focus, English Language Learners (ELL) and Literacy Education, and integrates education technology.  While the non-thesis Ed.M. degree is a masters degree focused on practitioner-based model with its purpose to develop teachers’ or other professionals’ knowledge and skills. On the there hand the thesis M.A. degree research-based masters program is designed for students who wish to focus on educational research in literacy or ELL and who may pursue a doctoral degree. This information is for the Ed.M. degree.

The Master of Education (Ed.M.) degree in LLT is designed for students wishing to extend their knowledge and skills in education, expand their content knowledge, and/or pursue leadership roles in schools and organizations/agencies. The Ed.M. degree program consists of a minimum of thirty (30) graded credits plus a minimum of two (2) credits for the final project (TCH LRN 702). Enrollment in TCH LRN 702 usually involves research/scholarship activities associated with a Special Project. The performance criteria in TCH LRN 702 are based on a satisfactory/unsatisfactory scale, as opposed to a letter grade.

NOTE: Degree and certification programs in the Department of Teaching and Learning do not accept state of Washington tuition waivers. This includes the following graduate programs: Ed.M., M.A., and Ph.D., as well as certification programs.

 

Admission Requirements:

01. A WSU Graduate School general application (including application fee). In GradCAS search for Washington State University – Master of Arts in Language, Literacy and Technology.

02. Current resume or vitae.

03. Letter of Intent. The letter of intent must include:

  • The reason for pursuing a graduate degree
  • A description of leadership or other life experience that relates to graduate study
  • A commitment to scholarship or professional development
  • A specific research or inquiry interest(s) in Language, Literacy and Technology,
  • The unique perspective you would bring to the graduate program

04. Three letters of reference. The three letters of recommendation, submitted through GradCAS, must address your:

  • interpersonal skills
  • potential for graduate study/scholarship
  • experience with teaching children, youth or adults
  • facility with written, oral, and interpersonal communication

05. Complete Educational History and Transcripts from any colleges/universities:

  • Where any degrees have been granted or are expected.
  • That show any graded bachelor’s work and/or graduate-level work (including doctoral) taken after the bachelor’s degree.
  • Unofficial copies may be uploaded with your Graduate School application for application review. If admitted, you will be required to submit official copies to the WSU Graduate School.
  • Official WSU Transcripts are NOT required for coursework taken at WSU.

07. Copies of currently held education certificates.
