In this generative workshop, you’ll learn the what, why, and how of a teaching philosophy and teaching statement. Through self-reflection and discussion with other workshop participants, you’ll begin to draft a statement that shares your values and experiences of teaching in a compelling way. You’ll articulate what is important to you as a teacher, themes that arise in your values and pedagogy, and specific examples of your skills and growth. As a writing workshop, the session will emphasize using voice, tense, and point of view appropriate for the teaching statement as well as highlight reflection versus summary and “show” versus “tell.” Plan to write during the workshop and leave with resources to continue developing your teaching statement.

Facilitator(s): Amy Whitcomb, Writing Program Instructor, and TBD
