Learn about the process of applying for major prestigious fellowships. This workshop will discuss valuable approaches and skills needed to draft and then edit your work into competitive applications. The National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship program (NSF GRFP) will be used as a model, but the information will be relevant to many other early and mid-career graduate fellowships. We will discuss how to decipher the application instructions, what the reviewers are looking for that would set your application apart from the crowd, and what you can do to strengthen your credentials before the fall application deadlines. This workshop has been presented for several years through the Office of Research and now the PDI, correlating with a marked growth in successful NSF GRFP applications from WSU graduate students.

This year’s workshop will be presented by Dr. Lisa Gloss, former Dean of the WSU Graduate School. Dr. Gloss has served on the institutional Goldwater Scholarship Selection Committee for 10+ years, participated in mock interviews to prepare multiple international scholarship semi-finalists and served nationally on review panels for the Winston Churchill Foundation Scholarship and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) pre- and post-doctoral fellowships as well as NSF and NIH review panels for research grants.
