Frequently Asked Questions

The EPIC program at Washington State University is a joint initiative between WSU and UAW 4951, the union representing Academic Student Employees. Because of this collaborative structure, questions often arise about who participates, how to schedule trainings, and how EPIC connects to other university programs. We’ve gathered answers to the most common questions below.

At this time, EPIC training is not mandatory for Academic Student Employees (ASEs). The WSU–UAW 4591 agreement ensures that all ASEs are offered the opportunity to attend peer-led prevention training.
However, individual departments or hiring units may choose to make participation required for their ASEs in the future as part of local onboarding or workplace culture initiatives.

EPIC sessions are open to ASEs, graduate students, postdocs, and departments that want to strengthen prevention practices in their workplace culture.

While Title IX and CCR focus on policy, reporting, and compliance, EPIC emphasizes peer-led prevention, early intervention, and inclusive communication within academic spaces.
