Tax Help for Graduate and Professional Students

February 9, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE PRESENTS:

Tax Help for Graduate and Professional Students

Dr. Richard Toolson, Professor of Accounting

This –VIRTUAL– event is free for graduate and undergraduate students, as well as for faculty

This workshop will look at the basics of federal income taxation as it applies to graduate and professional students who file a 1040 (not a 1040 NR) and who are not claimed by a parent on the parent’s tax return. Some of the topics to be covered are the tax treatment of revenue sources such as grants, student loans, scholarships, and assistantships.  Other likely topics are the standard deduction amounts under the new law, the difference between a refundable tax credit, non-refundable tax credit, and a deduction.   Specific credits to be addressed will be the Lifetime Learning Credit, the earned income credit, and the child tax credit.

**This event will be offered via Zoom only
