How to Write Proposals that Get Funded and Papers that Get Cited: Activating Language (The Tactics of Communication)

October 12, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

This –VIRTUAL– event is free for graduate and undergraduate students, as well as for faculty

This session will dive into the fine details—word use. How do sharpen writing to activate and clarify and to tighten it to save space (proposals all have page limits)? Academics, across all areas of scholarship, have several bad habits that make our writing cumbersome; this reduces our effectiveness even when writing for our close peers, but it often makes us unintelligible to the public. The issue is not just avoiding “jargon”—we deal with technical material and must use many technical terms. The issue is often more about using verbs badly. Register here
