Pursuing a teaching-focused career within higher education is often considered a road less traveled within hard sciences such as engineering. Consequently, there are often relatively few programs and opportunities to prepare students with this passion. This talk will highlight the broad teaching, professional development, and job searching opportunities that may be available to undergraduate and graduate students. Some specific teaching strategies such as Team-Based Learning (TBL) and large-enrollment courses (500+ students) will be discussed, in addition to suggestions for successfully preparing, applying, and interviewing for a teaching position. Examples, experiences and “lessons learned” from my specific journey will also be shared.
