Admission Requirements
For admission to the graduate programs, a
bachelor’s degree is required with a
minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last half of the
undergraduate work. The GRE general test and
subject test in physics are required of all
applicants. No minimum acceptable scores are
specified. Students from non-English speaking
countries are required to demonstrate proficiency
in English via the TOEFL exam. Minimum acceptable
score for admission is 550 (paper based) or 214
(computer based), Internet based (IBT) 80.
Program Description
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at
Washington State University offers three graduate
degrees (Ph.D., thesis M.S., and non-thesis M.S.)
and a certificate in optoelectronics, which are
designed to give every student a thorough
background in the major areas of current
research. The department emphasizes a friendly,
informal atmosphere, where students can tailor
their programs to specific needs and interests.
