Admission Requirements
Materials required for admission include: the Graduate School Application form; official transcripts from all universities attended; GRE scores; TOEFL or IELTS scores (international students only); three letters of recommendation addressing the applicant’s academic qualifications for graduate work in history; a statement of purpose; a writing sample, preferably in the field of history; Preferred Fields of Study form; and the Language Background form (forms available on Web http://libarts.wsu.edu/history/graduate-studies/admissions.asp

Program Description
The Department of History at Washington State University offers graduate study leading to the master of arts (thesis and non-thesis options) and doctor of philosophy degrees. Specialized areas of study within the history department include U.S., Europe, early modern Europe, and modern Europe, modern East Asian, Latin American, world, women’s, public, and environmental history. The department also cooperates with the Department of English to offer a research field in American studies. In recent years the department has succeeded in placing almost all of its graduate students in academic or public history positions.
