About the Program
-
The Graduate School and the Graduate and Professional Student Association make funds available for graduate student travel grants intended to help students in their research and scholarly activities, and to present papers at significant events.
- Grants may be used to defray transportation costs, but not lodging and food. Travel periods and corresponding deadlines are noted in the tables below.
- We encourage students to take the time to research the available economy fares, including excursion or supersaver rates. A request may not exceed the cost of a round trip coach airline ticket to the proposed destination.
- Travel within 500 miles of Pullman is commonly funded at ground transportation rates. Students are encouraged to carpool to save on individual costs. Separate forms for Block Grant applications are available at the links below.
- Every year since inception of the program, students have applied for more funds than are available. Typically, the subcommittee of the Graduate Studies Committee responsible for evaluating proposals recommends funding for the top 1/3 to 1/2 of all applications. The priority list that the subcommittee uses in evaluating proposals is included in the application packet.
- Because of high demand, applications from students who have already received funding from this program, for the same degree, cannot be considered.
Requirements
- All full-time regularly admitted graduate students (currently enrolled for ten hours or more) who have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average may apply.
- Eleven (11) copies of the completed form (including the original) are required, with ONE copy of the cover sheet. Forms for Individual and Block Grants are available from the Graduate School, or this website.
- Applicants should allow sufficient time for a carefully considered statement in the advisor's section before submitting to the Graduate School. Applications are not accepted electronically; however, with the exception of the advisor's comment and signature, the application mayn be completed on this Web site before printing.
- Completed applications must be HAND-DELIVERED to the Graduate School by 5:00 pm on the deadline date noted below, for the desired travel period. LATE APPLICATIONS ARE NOT CONSIDERED. Awards will be announced as noted below.

Additional Tips and Programs
GPSA
Be sure that you are applying to the correct travel grant program in order to improve your chance of being funded. Late applications are not considered. The Graduate Professional and Student Program (GPSA) sponsors a separate Travel Grant program for students enrolled in Professional Graduate Degree programs. The GPSA Professional Degree Program Travel Grant application forms are available from the GPSA Web site.
Make Reservations Early
It is recommended that you make reservations early for lower rates and that you keep all ticket stubs, itineraries, and receipts to ensure adequate and timely reimbursement.
Still waiting to be accepted to a meeting? Apply now and inform the Graduate School when your paper has been accepted.
Blind Applications
All travel grant reviews are anonymous, therefore do not include the names of the applicant(s) or their advisor(s) on the application forms or supporting documents, including abstracts. They should be included only on the cover sheet where indicated.
